The Brunel Public House and Restaurant
The Brunel Public House and Restaurant
The pub and restaurant – named “The Brunel” after the leading engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel whose work included the Great Western Railway and the viaduct in Chippenham which sits next door is now sited in the former home of Roland Brotherhood – the principal contractor of the original London to Bristol railway line and who hosted Isambard Kingdom Brunel at his home on many occasions.

The Brunel is a Smith & Jones branded pub that comprises modern former retail space with a separate listed room that sits within the main pub area and includes its own bar. The £750,000 investment by pub operator Barracuda Group on the interior has been sympathetic in its décor and design incorporating many of the building's original features such as a marble mantelpiece, sash windows and ornate cornicing. Barracuda's fit out followed on from HPH Commercial Properties million pound investment in the fabric of the building which was acquired by them in a state of disrepair and originally identified as being a listed building "At Risk" by the local authority.

The Brunel is a Smith & Jones branded pub and is open from 11am to 11pm every day. Customers at The Brunel can also enjoy meals from an award-winning menu from 12 noon to 9pm every day.
