NEW OFFICES FOR WHALE AND DOLPHIN CONSERVATION SOCIETY
NEW OFFICES FOR WHALE AND DOLPHIN CONSERVATION SOCIETY
HPH Commercial Property has completed extensive remodelling works of the international headquarters for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society at Brookfield House in Chippenham.

The works were instigated by owners and landlords HPH Commercial Property following discussion with the Society who were seeking to expand and potentially relocate elsewhere within the town. Lindsay Holdoway, Managing Director, HPH Commercial Property explains: "We met with the Society a year ago to establish their immediate and longer term requirements. We drew up plans in collaboration with The Society to release the potential from the existing building and extend it whilst remodelling the front elevation and entrance. As the owners of the property we were in a position to finance the work through a restructuring of the existing lease."

Internally the building is now far more efficient and the offices make maximum use of the accommodation. Some offices have been made open plan and the total office area is now over 5,000 sq. ft. The refurbishment ensured that The Society can comply with the latest Disability Discrimination Act guidelines and increased thermal insulation and the provision of a shower for those who avoid taking the car to work will help them reduce their carbon footprint.

Externally the work involved adding an unusual new curved extension at both ground and first floors constructed in Bath stone. This choice of design by Bath architects Tektus, evokes the curves of whales and dolphins and significantly contributes to the public landscape areas in front of the Brunel Arches, in which HPH Commercial Property has also been involved. Local contractors Biggs were instructed for the works.

Chris Butler-Stroud, Chief Executive of WDCS commented: "We are extremely pleased with the refurbishment works and the building is now a credit to our Society as our international headquarters for our 75 staff. HPH Property and their team have provided a building with superb modern design internally, as well as fantastic original architecture externally. The help HPH Property provided in housing our staff in Station Hill House during the redevelopment was much appreciated by all."

Lindsay Holdoway, Managing Director, HPH Commercial Property said: "We strive to work with our tenants to fulfil their real estate strategies. By collaborating with the management team and anticipating occupational requirements we are able to provide buildings which offer modern, flexible and functional accommodation for a range of uses."

The work at Brookfield House was financed wholly by HPH Commercial Property.
