A project to develop facilities for young bikers in Chippenham has been given a kick start by a local property company.
HPH Commercial Property has spearheaded a campaign to raise funds for a BMX Pump Track by pledging £1,500 towards the new facility which will be installed alongside the planned dirt jumps in the town’s Stanley Park.
The proposed pump track is approximately 40 metre long course comprised of a series of undulations designed in such a way that the rider can use momentum and downward force to propel themselves around the track without pedalling.
Senior Youth Development Co-ordinator for Wiltshire Council, Richard Williams, believes that the donation from HPH is the catalyst the campaign needs to get it started.
He said, "Chippenham Trails Group has raised money for a new dirt jump facility in Stanley Park which is due to open in May, and after consultation with the people. We now need to try to raise funds for an adjacent pump track."
"We have been lucky enough to receive an initial donation from HPH Commercial Property to get the fundraising started, and it has really given this campaign a boost. We're hopeful that it will also encourage other businesses and organisations to get involved."

Lindsay Holdoway, Managing Director of HPH Commercial Property added, "When we found out about the BMX pump track initiative, we knew it was something that we wanted to lend our support to. It will be a great facility for local young people, something that will encourage them to get out and about and be active."
