29th Aug - Just Under Two Weeks To Go!

With the departure date in sight it's time for final training and preparation. Once again the "summer" is making the training very wet. Time to start looking at the forecasts for the Danube. Let's hope it is dry!

The rain stopped over the weekend for just enough time to test out the sunglasses supplied by Brad Abrahams Opticians.

Future events –

Wiltshire Music Centre will be collecting donations at the City Of London Sinfonia, Opening Concert of The 15th Anniversary Series on 21st September. The event is sponsored by HPH Ltd. Tickets are available here

22nd Aug - We're Back to 11

After a brief fitness and sanity check David Guy has volunteered to join the challenge. It will be great to have David in the team - No doubt everyone will be quietly hoping there will be an obvious back marker, as David has had little or no time to train. Knowing David, they will be disappointed!

20th Aug - Disaster! James Taylor injured

Unfortunately James Taylor broke his ankle playing tennis last week and will be on crutches for the next 6 weeks. A real shame as he had been training hard and we will miss him. We are now looking for a late replacement so if you are feeling fit give Lindsay a call on 07768 362238.

13th Aug - Four weeks to go!

Yesterday saw the finale of London 2012. An incredible medal haul for Team GB cyclists both in the velodrome and on the road. With four weeks to go, our team is nearing readiness for the Danube 2012 challenge, inspired in part by all of Team GB's Olympic success, but also by the feeling that preparations and training are going well.

30th July - Silver for GB!

Congratulations to Lizzie Armitstead for her silver medal in Sunday's Olympic women's road race. Shame about the Men's race on Saturday, but hopefully a better result in the individual time trials on Wednesday. Good luck to all of Team GB!

Preparation for our trip is going well. The team cycling vests have now arrived and look really good. (Pic to follow)

All the team members are putting in the miles ahead of their holidays with trips from Bath to Newbury and Bath to Bristol and Chew Valley becoming well worn trails. We are likely to have covered over 12,000km by the time we depart on 11th September.

26th July - Win for Bradley!

Congratulations to Bradley Wiggins and Team Sky for the win last weekend!

Although we won’t be racing, we hope our tour goes as well as theirs did!

Brad Abrahams Opticians have kindly sponsored eyewear for the team, including Oakley Radar Path sunglasses as worn by Bradley Wiggins – any resemblance ends there!

6th July – Team Meeting, Inn at Freshford

With Will H, James and Chris finishing their A levels ten out of eleven of the team assembled at the Inn at Freshford to get to know each other and compare training experiences. With the training shirts available, printed by John Moore Sports Stitch and Print, we were able to get a photograph of most of the group. Unfortunately Frank and Ian, who were cycling from Bristol, were delayed on the towpath!

Another lesson learned – rehydrating in the pub may not be the best preparation for the next day’s cycling!

24th June – Bike Bath

Simon, David, Anne, Lindsay and James took part in the 30 mile Bike Bath Sunday Sportif, the first outing for part of the Danube 2012 squad. Amounting to less than half the daily mileage required in September this was a good work out on one of the only dry mornings in June!

Some useful insights were gained for planning the main trip. Two flat tyres emphasised the need for puncture resistant tyres. A detached peloton proved to be quite painful! Practising cycling in groups and communication is definitely required.

The team shirts were still being printed – there is still plenty of development left for this team!
