Chippenham Station refurbishment underway

The first phase of the refurbishment of Chippenham Railway Station has begun.

A new ticket hall and café have already been completed but future improvements will also include better security, improved accessibility, improved frontage and more places to store and lock up bikes.

The work is being funded through the Local Growth Deal which the Swindon & Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (SWLEP) competitively bid for from Government.

Phase one of the refurbishment is led by Great Western Railway and supported by Wiltshire Council and Network Rail. Plans for phase two are expected to follow shortly.

John Mortimer, chairman of SWLEP, said, "We have committed to investing £16m in the refurbishment of Chippenham Railway station; which has enabled a potential further £18m of private match funding," he said.

"This investment will enhance the station facilities and the development of surrounding land for improved car parking, commercial property and residential property.”
