Wiltshire College gains university centre status
Wiltshire College has been granted University Centre status by the Department for Education.
This change was made in order to recognise the College’s degree and higher level courses. The proposal also received support from partner universities, Wiltshire Council and local schools.
The College will now be known as Wiltshire College & University Centre.
This new status makes Wiltshire an attractive place to study in the South West, with the College currently offering 20 university level courses, with an additional 10 further programmes being planned to begin in 2019. Such courses include Photography, Motorsport Engineering, and Early Years and Childhood Studies.
With the College’s four campuses located in Trowbridge, Chippenham, Lackham and Salisbury, the South West is fast becoming the perfect location for local businesses and employers and is positive for future educational development in the region.
Lindsay Holdoway, Managing Director of HPH Ltd said, “At HPH we are pleased to see that Wiltshire College has been granted University Centre Status. Although Bath’s two universities are close, the lack of a university in Wiltshire itself has long been a concern for the county.
“This is a very positive achievement for Wiltshire and will help to create exciting opportunities for businesses already in the county who are looking to build highly-skilled workforces. It will also help attract businesses considering locating in the county.”
