Whale and dolphin charity and HPH team up to secure funding for greener Chippenham headquarters
Global charity Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) and property company HPH recently secured funding for major energy-efficiency improvements at Brookfield House in the heart of Chippenham.
HPH, who own the building, have been working in partnership with WDC to develop plans to make the building more sustainable. Recent upgrades include replacing all lights and fittings with energy-efficient LED units and installing two new modulating boilers with weather compensation controls to replace the existing system. Together, these measures will significantly reduce energy consumption, lower operational costs and cut carbon emissions.
“This project is a great example of our shared commitment to sustainability and reflects the environmental goals of both HPH and WDC,” said Marian Day, Director of Property and Facilities Management at HPH, who oversaw the project. “We’re pleased to have enabled WDC to secure funding to support the improvements, and with HPH and WDC funding the balance our tenant should achieve a payback of less than two years.”
The funding followed a free energy-efficiency survey through Wiltshire Council’s Fit for Net Zero programme, delivered by sustainability charity Severn Wye and funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The assessment produced a tailored action plan and led to a successful application to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund via the “Fit for Net Zero” scheme for a grant covering 50% of the works.
“We’ve achieved two big goals through this process – reducing our environmental impact and carbon emissions, and operating in a leaner and more efficient way,” said Tina Lambert, head of supporter relations and facilities management at Whale and Dolphin Conservation. “HPH helped us navigate the complexities of securing funding, applying their expert knowledge and collaborating with local contractors.”
The LED lighting is estimated to reduce lighting load by 56%, and the new heating system is expected to improve efficiency by around 25%. Work was completed this month.
